Glossary

Affiliate
An individual associated with an enterprise. In the case of the University of Georgia, these affiliates include students, faculty, staff, dependents, alumni, and potentially others.
Auxiliary System
Computer systems not directly connected to the central administration system .
Business Process Analysis (BPA)
A means of analyzing current and future business processes and documenting the activities, offices, and documents which are part of the process.
CAN (Card Access Number)
A 16-digit number issued by UGA Card Services to all students, faculty, staff, and other UGA affiliates. This number is affixed to the UGACard, which provides access to a number of services and facilities. The number is also stored in UGA's Directory Service and is used in place of the SSN to provide access to online services. The number has three parts: the first 6 digits identify the University of Georgia, the next nine digits are unique to each individual, and the last number is a card issue number.

ID Management Task Force
The University of Georgia Identity Management Task Force was assembled by Provost Mace and charged to develop a Social Security Number remediation/replacement plan and strategy, identify issues regarding development of a comprehensive Identity Management system at UGA, recommend ID card policies and procedures that address issues ascertained by the Identity Management Task Force, and supply timelines, cost projections, and an implementation structure and other documents attendant to the development of an SSN remediation/replacement system.
