High Bandwidth Consumption Systems

The UGA core data network is a shared and limited resource.  According to the UGA Policies on the Use of Computers, resources should be used fairly with priority given to more important work. Additionally, computer resources should not be connected to the UGA network without meeting technical standards set by the University administration.

With respect to this policy, EITS requires some high bandwidth consuming systems or systems with a high availability need — such as IP security camera systems with a DVR component or facility access control systems — to connect to a network that is physically separate from the core UGA data network.

This separate physical network architecture prevents disruption in the core network and preserves network bandwidth for educational uses. Arrangements for a separate physical network can be made by supporting a request with the EITS network infrastructure team.
