1. When is this upgrade scheduled?
The upgrade is scheduled to begin on Sunday July 6, 2008 at 12 AM (midnight) and is scheduled to be completed on
Sunday July 6, 2008 at 12 PM (noon).

2. Why is this upgrade necessary?
On September 30, 2008, IBM withdraws support on the current operating system so they can focus on supporting and improving the new operating systems. This upgrade keeps us at current support levels and also gives us the ability to use some of the new functionality found in newer releases.

3.Whom does the upgrade system effect?
Students, Faculty and Staff. Any user who uses an
application found on the mainframe such as OASIS, or application whose
data is from the mainframe such as Employee Leave information from the

4. Why does it require such a long downtime?
Most of the downtime is spent testing. The new operating system is tested extensively by staff across EITS units before the final approval is given for the upgrade.
