ATHENS, Ga.— Members of the Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) were recognized for their achievements at a reception held November 30 in historic Old College on the UGA Athens campus. The Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) is an advisory body with membership that includes representation from the four functional areas of the University (instruction, research, public service, and administration) as well as the UGA information technology community, information security, and the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.

ITAC membership also includes representatives from the UGA faculty and student body. The complete membership listing is available on the ITAC Web site, referenced at the end of this press release.

Provost Mace opened the reception by acknowledging several notable accomplishments by the ITAC through its four committees.

The Research Computing Committee was recognized for its leadership in identifying research priorities for UGA, including participation in high-performance computing groups such as the Southern Light Rail (high-speed networking) and the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA).

The Committee for Academic and Instructional Computing was recognized for successfully working to increase the funding for the Student Technology Fee and the Learning Technology Grants. The committee was also involved in a comprehensive review of learning management systems to assess current and future needs for online learning services.

The Public Service and Outreach Committee was recognized for its efforts to build greater connectivity and support for the distant learner while also encouraging the community learning experience.

The IT Security and Advisory Committee was recognized for the implementation of a campus policy development process for information technology and successfully using this process for the ratification of several new security policies, including email policies, password policies, and networked device policies. The committee's work in information security training was also recognized.

Chief Information Officer and Associate Provost White introduced Sandi Glass, ITAC Chair, following Provost Mace's comments. As testimony to the excellent leadership Glass has provided to ITAC, White announced that she has requested that Glass continue as chair for another year.

White also extended her appreciation to each committee member. All members in attendance were given certificates of appreciation for their contributions to better the University of Georgia through the effective use of its information technology resources.
