2006 Learning Technologies Showcase features UGA experts and innovators in education

ATHENS, Ga.— The Web site for the 2006 Learning Technologies Showcase (ltshowcase.uga.edu) invites attendees to "come explore how faculty at UGA are engaging students in learning with technology." The day-long event, which takes place on October 4, 2006, in the Tate Student Center, includes faculty presentations on wikis, blogs, scholarly writing solutions, and more.

The 2006 Learning Technologies Showcase is sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS). These two campus units have been partners in learning for many years, working together to bring WebCT, Element K, Horizon Wimba Live Classroom, and other learning technologies to the forefront of the educational experience.

"It is a self-evident case for a show and a unique opportunity to find out the latest in learning technologies used by colleagues around campus," said Dr. Nelson Hilton, CTL Director. "No vaporware or pie-in-the-sky ... all are happening here and now and are ready for adoption."

No registration is required for the showcase, which is open to all UGA faculty, staff, and students interested in teaching and learning with technology. The sessions begin each hour, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and are presented "a la carte" to accommodate busy schedules.

In addition to the hourly sessions, EITS, CTL, and the UGA Libraries will be exhibiting learning technologies solutions throughout the day.

"The 2005 Campus Computing Survey Project continues to reflect the rising use of IT resources and services in the instructional arena estimating that nearly 60% of all college courses use Internet-based resources," said Dr. Barbara White, Chief Information Officer and Associate Provost. "This showcase is great opportunity to see 'technology in action' and the potential for inclusion in UGA courses."
