ARCHES personal Web pages moving to MyWeb modern technology

ATHENS, Ga.— After many years of service, ARCHES will finally be allowed to spend its golden years in retirement. The system has served us well—providing e-mail for UGA until the advent of UGAMail and hosting personal Web sites for students, faculty, and staff.

ARCHES' retirement is due primarily to aging technology and the availability of modern technology to host personal Web sites. The current MyDrive system, which provides Internet-accessible file storage space through MyUGA, is being enabled for Web hosting. This new function is being referred to as MyWeb, with myweb.uga.edu becoming the Web address for personal pages at UGA.

An exact date for the replacement is yet to be determined, but will take place during July of this year. EITS staff are still working out the details to make certain that the transition is as transparent as possible. As we finalize the transition plan, we wanted you to be aware of the following:

  • No action is required on your part for viewing ARCHES pages. The old address of arches.uga.edu/~myid will continue to work. We suggest, however, that you list or promote your site with the new address:

    myweb.uga.edu/~myid

  • The way Web pages are created, uploaded, and updated will change. Details instructions on how the access the new system will be provided after all methods are tested and verified.
  • We will also be retiring two old programs on ARCHES: the local Guestbook and Counter. We will be directing you to free equivalents to these services.

Look for more information soon from EITS, providing you with additional details on the ARCHES to MyWeb transition.
