Dr. Barbara A. White nominated for Quality Leadership Executive of the Year Southeast Awards

ATHENS, Ga.— Dr. Barbara A. White, UGA Chief Information Officer and Associate Provost, has received a nomination from the Executive Alliance, creator and provider of premium leadership-recognition forums, for the Quality Leadership Executive (QLE) of the Year Southeast Awards 2006.

"I am honored and humbled by this nomination and greatly appreciate the effort by Executive Alliance and the founding sponsors in establishing this award," said Dr. White.

Dr. White joins an impressive roster of nominees, along with their teams, who are being recognized for exemplary practice in the field of Information Technology Quality Assurance. Quality Assurance is the standard and practice of planning and implementing systematic processes for assuring that a product or service meets the quality needed and expected by the customer.

Nominees were selected from a group of chief information officers and executives who have made significant contributions to the successful convergence of technology and business. Drawn from both the public and private sectors, the nominees are employed by a business or enterprise located in the southeastern region of the United States, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

"It is a wonderful opportunity and clearly reflects the hard work by my colleagues at UGA as it takes a large number of dedicated and committed individuals for leaders to lead," said White. "I am excited for the University and for my organization and look forward to the outcome of this event."

Among the Quality Assurance practices initiated and sponsored at UGA by Dr. White are the Compact Planning process and training in Six Sigma methodology. Compact Planning is a highly interactive, collegial, and participatory planning process involving clients, partners, and IT professionals throughout the University. Six Sigma, a quality management program designed to achieve high levels of quality through the application of statistical methods to improve operating efficiency, complements and supports the Compact Planning process.

The QLE Southeast Awards will be conferred October 19 in an awards ceremony to be held at the Westin Atlanta North at Perimeter. For more information, please see:
