Second round of Six Sigma training begins this fall

ATHENS, Ga.— On Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning September 14, Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS), in partnership with Athens Technical College and UGA Faculty and Staff Training and Development, will present the second round of Six Sigma training for University of Georgia and University System of Georgia employees. The training will consist of a series of classes and workshops held at the UGA Training and Development Center. The initial round of Six Sigma training was conducted in March through May of this year.

The training is intended to promote better process and defect management. Individuals wishing to participate in the training may register through EITS Conference Services.

The Six Sigma methodology, developed in the late 80s at Motorola, is defined as a methodology to manage process variations that cause defects (defined as unacceptable deviation from the mean or target) and to systematically work towards managing variation to eliminate those defects. The objective of Six Sigma is to deliver world-class performance, reliability, and value to the end customer.

Those attending the training will concentrate on developing "real life" projects - that is, taking processes that currently exist on campus and refining them using the Six Sigma methodology toward process improvement and implementation on campus. The five Tuesday classes will focus on project work, while the five Thursday classes will be instructor-led classes.

The complete schedule follows:

Thursday, Sept. 14, 8-11 a.m. - Instructional Class
