Georgia Technology Authority establishes new system for reporting telephone services repairs effective July 24, 2006

The implementation date of July 24, 2006, has been delayed indefinitely. Please continue to report telephone outages and repair problems to the local GTA Regional Office (706-542-5221).

ATHENS, Ga.— The UGA Office of Telephone Services, a unit within Enterprise Information Technology Services, has been informed that the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) has established a new process to report telephone outages and repairs. This change directly affects UGA telephone users.

"Beginning July 24, 2006, telephone outages and repair problems should be reported to 888-943-5742," said Judy Howell, UGA Telephone Services Office manager. "This toll-free number should be used instead of calling the local GTA Regional Office (706-542-5221 in Athens)."

UGA departmental telephone representatives and others needing to report telephone repair problems may also send and email to CommandCenter@gta.ga.gov.

"The toll-free number is strictly for repair calls," said Howell. Requests for new telephone services should be handled as they have it the past (see eits.uga.edu/telephone).

Please direct questions regarding this change to the UGA Telephone Services Office, 706 542-6962.
