Digital Media Downloading Panel to feature national, local experts in digital media distribution and information security

ATHENS, Ga.— EITS has arranged a Digital Media Downloading Panel to enhance the awareness of issues related to digital media, including music and movie downloads, at UGA. The event is scheduled for 10am to 11:30am, October 15, at the Tate Student Center Reception Hall. All UGA students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend.

Panelists scheduled to appear include:

Ed Cheely, Director, Campus Sales, Ruckus Network (www.ruckus.com)
Paige Rolston Fromer, Recording Industry Association of America (www.riaa.com)
Kimberly Ballard-Washington, UGA Legal Affairs
Bryan Rush, Coordinator, UGA Judicial Programs
Brendan Wright, UGA Student Government Association
Mike Barry, UGA Student Government Association
Barbara White, UGA Chief Information Officer and Associate Provost
Stanton Gatewood, UGA Chief Information Security Officer

The session will open with panelists making short presentations on their particular expertise area regarding digital media downloading. A moderated question and answer period will follow the presentations.

All UGA students, faculty, and staff are invited and no registration is required for the event. Students who participate in the Blue Card program will receive program credit for attending the Digital Media Downloading Panel.

The Digital Media Downloading Panel is taking place during Cyber Security Awareness Month. The goal of National Cyber Security Awareness Month is to educate everyday Internet users on how to "Protect Yourself Before You Connect Yourself," by taking simple and effective steps. Music and entertainment downloads present a particular risk to Internet users as files downloaded to a computer can contain virus, spyware, or other malicious programs.
