Windows Vista, Office 2007, and Learning Essentials training offered at Georgia Southern University and University of Georgia

ATHENS, Ga.— With the release of Microsoft Windows Vista, Office 2007, and the latest release of Learning Essentials, Microsoft has agreed to provide training on these products to information technology staff and faculty throughout the University System of Georgia. In order to make this training accessible to as many participants as possible, two training sessions have been arranged. A southern location, Georgia Southern University, and a northern location, the University of Georgia, have been chosen as the training sites.

Each four-hour training session will provide the participant an in-depth view of all products. Details regarding each session are as follows:

Microsoft is offering the training at no charge; however, registration is recommended. Individuals wishing to attend either training session can register through EITS Conference Services: eitsconf@uga.edu.

Windows Vista, Office 2007, and Learning Essentials product information:

Windows Vista:
Windows Vista contains hundreds of new features, including an updated graphical user interface and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved searching features, new multimedia creation tools such as Windows DVD Maker, and completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display sub-systems.

Office 2007:
Office 2007 contains a number of new features, the most notable of which is the new graphical user interface called the Ribbon, replacing the menus and toolbars. Office 2007 also includes new applications and server-side tools. Chief amongst these is Groove, a collaboration and communication suite; Office Sharepoint Server 2007, a major revision to the server platform for Office applications, which supports "Excel Services," a client-server architecture for supporting Excel workbooks that are shared in real time between multiple machines, and are also viewable and editable through a Web page.

Learning Essentials:
Learning Essentials includes curriculum-based templates and toolbars for Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office PowerPoint presentation graphics program, and Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet software, plus academic tutorials from leading education publishers. Learning Essentials helps students get started, stay organized, and successfully complete high-quality assignments. And for educators, Learning Essentials can help them easily create effective instructional resources, complete administrative tasks, and implement new teaching strategies.
