50 Years of Computing at UGA reception set for May 27

The 50 Years of Computing at UGA Web site includes photographs, movies and a complete chronology highlighting the history of computing at UGA over the past 50 years

ATHENS, Ga.— Please mark your calendars now for May 27, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., as we celebrate 50 years of computing at UGA.

It all began in 1957, in a coal bin in the Hoke Smith Annex, with a staff of two. Now we are hundreds strong, and are an integral part of the learning, research, and public service missions of this great university.

Sweet treats will be served in the Georgia Center Hill Atrium, and you will also be treated to photographs and exhibits from yesterday, today, and tomorrow, celebrating the rich tradition of computing and information technology that we are all proud to be a part of.

We also look forward to hearing from Provost Mace, who will share his thoughts with us to open the reception.

For your viewing pleasure before the reception, please visit the EITS Web site dedicated to 50 Years of Computing at UGA:

The photographs will be displayed in the Hill Atrium gallery, across from Mahler Auditorium, beginning May 22.

We look forward to seeing you all in this first year of our next 50 years.
