Water line repair on December 28 affects UGA information technology services

ATHENS, Ga.— EITS has been notified by the UGA Physical Plant of a leak in the main chilled water line that provides cooling for the Boyd Data Center (BDC). The timely repair of the leak is critical. Should the leak worsen, there is a risk of overheating in the BDC that could cause system outages and damage to these systems.

The repair will take place on the following schedule:

Start:   12 a.m. (midnight), Sunday, December 28
Finish:  8 a.m., Sunday, December 28

The BDC's backup generator will be deployed during the outage. However, since there will be limited cooling during the repair time, the following services will not be available during the repair window:

  • The UGA Web site (www.uga.edu)
  • The IBM mainframe (financial, administrative, and student applications, including OASIS)
  • WebCT
  • UGAMail
  • MyUGA
  • The UGA Calendar Service
  • The Research Computing Center
  • All systems and services that require MyID for log in
  • All other systems hosted or housed in the BDC

Please direct questions regarding this outage to Jeff Teasley, EITS Director of Systems Provisioning and Maintenance, at jteasley@uga.edu or 706/542-3106.
