WRITER: Leader of wireless deployment at UGA to serve on Cisco Mobility Higher Education Technical Advisory Board ATHENS, Ga.— David Stewart, an IT senior manager with EITS who has been overseeing the UGA wireless deployment project, has been nominated to serve on the Cisco Mobility Higher Education Technical Advisory Board.
The Cisco Mobility Higher Education Technical is an invitation-only board which consists of 25 CIOs and directors of IT from higher education institutions in the United States and Canada. The goal of this board is to provide strategic input to shape the future direction of Cisco's wireless products and solutions. "The invitation was extended to me because of the large-scale Student Technology Fee wireless deployment UGA has undertaken," said Stewart. "Cisco equipment is an integral part of our wireless infrastructure, allowing us to provide highly distributed wireless services to UGA students, faculty, and staff in a centrally managed environment." "This is a good opportunity for The University of Georgia and is recognition of David's leadership and in-depth knowledge of wireless technology and Cisco solutions among his peers," said Mike Dennis, associate CIO for Client Services, Infrastructure, and Operations. Cisco was founded in 1984 by a small group of computer scientists from Stanford University. Since the company's inception, Cisco engineers have been leaders in the development of Internet-based networking technologies. Cisco has more than 63,050 employees worldwide. Stewart has been working with technology at UGA, where he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1989), for 18 years. He has served in many roles, including research computing support, Unix systems administration, and a number of management roles in the Client Services Department. He is currently an IT senior manager in the Security, Network Operations, and Infrastructure Department at EITS.
