EITS and UGA emergency personnel participate in Simulation-Based Training for Command Post Personnel


Attendees at a three-day training seminar focusing on Homeland Security Presidential Directive Five (HSPD-5) tested what they had learned by responding to a mock riot at UGA using a model campus.
ATHENS, Ga.— Bert DeSimone, EITS Communications, participated in a three-day training seminar focusing on Homeland Security Presidential Directive Five (HSPD-5) mandate and the individual components of the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System.

DeSimone participated in the Intelligence Section, along with Jim Williams, Lieutenant at Athens-Clarke County PD, Homeland Security Coordinator, and Pete Golden, UGA Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Operations Coordinator. The Intelligence Section is responsible for gathering, evaluating, and disseminating intelligence data during an incident.

The session concluded with a simulation of an emergency incident using a model campus where attendees were able to test what they had learned in the session.

The training was provided by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). IACLEA is an association that advances public safety for educational institutions by providing educational resources, advocacy, and professional development services.
