slee23@uga.edu EITS makes use of new Mac OS features to enhance customer service ATHENS, Ga.— Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) is using the newest features of Mac OS X Leopard–Apple's latest operating system –to enhance customer service to Mac users at UGA.
Patrick Ferguson, EITS Client Services IT professional specialist and Mac specialist, provides second-tier Apple support on campus for users not covered by departmental IT professionals or Student Technology Support (an EITS unit dedicated to providing IT support to UGA students). According to Ferguson, the newest version of the Apple operating system was officially released November 21, 2007. He began to familiarize himself with Leopard shortly thereafter to prepare for questions from the campus Apple community. "It looks and feels slightly different; it's a little more modern and there are a lot more features built right into the application," said Ferguson. He notes that one feature he finds particularly useful from a Client Services perspective is the Remote Administration Utility. "It's built into iChat and is really, really useful," he says. When a Mac user has a problem, notes Ferguson, the user can literally remotely connect to Ferguson's computer to fix the issue. "I can send a request on iChat to see what they are seeing. They confirm the request and I can fix their computer from mine." Ferguson says that this feature makes it much easier for him to quickly identify and address a user's particular problem in a timely manner. Those with Apple questions should first contact the EITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uga.edu or 542-3106 so the request can be forwarded to his office. EITS Client Services is dedicated to providing the highest quality customer service to all computer users on campus, while employing efficient and dependable operational methods toward achieving this goal. More information on the department can be found on the EITS Web site:
