ATHENS, Ga.— Building on the success of last spring's Computer Health and Security Fair, EITS is partnering with UGA's TEC Services for the Fall 2009 Computer Health and Security Fair. TEC Services, a unit within the Office of Research Services, will be on site along with EITS consultants and technicians to provide a security checkup for laptop computers.

UGA students, faculty, and staff are invited to bring their laptops to the second floor lobby of the Miller Learning Center between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., October 20, for security assistance.

The security checkup includes virus scans and software updates, spyware removal, and more. Requests will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis.

Security professionals will also be on hand to provide information about the dangers of phishing attacks and how you can protect yourself against these and other identity theft attempts.

The fair is intended to assist individuals with personally owned computers. Please be sure to consult your departmental IT professional before bringing a work computer to the fair.

This fall's fair is being conducted in support of National Cyber Security Awareness Month. National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), conducted every October since 2001, is a national public awareness campaign to encourage individuals to protect their computers and our nation's critical cyber infrastructure.
