Browser settings for optimal use of eLearning Commons

ATHENS, Ga.— Brought to you by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS), eLearning Commons (eLC) is a new online learning environment for posting class materials, communicating with students, and managing quizzes.

eLearning Commons will fully replace WebCT by January 2010 and is currently available for faculty to begin designing courses. The Learning Management Executive Committee—the group responsible for deployment of eLC—would like to make computer lab administrators and affected faculty aware of the browser requirements needed for eLC to function optimally.

Following is a list of browser/operating system combinations, as well as a checklist of settings that should be enabled/disabled, for using eLC.

Browser/Operating System Combinations

  • Internet Explorer 6 (on Windows XP)
  • Internet Explorer 7 (on Windows XP, Windows Vista)
  • Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS 10.3, 10.4, 10.5)
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.0 (on Windows XP, Windows Vista)
  • Apple Safari 2 (on Mac OS 10.3, 10.4)
  • Apple Safari 3 (on Mac OS 10.4, 10.5)
  • Apple Safari 3.1 (on Mac OS 10.4, 10.5)

Settings

  • Cookies enabled
  • JavaScript enabled
  • Pop-Up blockers set to allow pop-ups from elc.uga.edu
  • Java 2 Runtime Environment needs to be installed.

All eLC users are encouraged to browse to elc.uga.edu and click on Check Browser, which is located in the top right-hand corner of the Web site.
