EITS creates the Identity Management/Middleware Team

ATHENS, Ga.— EITS has established the Identity Management/Middleware Team to coordinate and extend the identity management and Social Security number removal program for UGA.

EITS has established the Identity Management/Middleware Team to coordinate and extend the identity management and Social Security number removal program for UGA; pictured left to right are, Keith Martin, Linda Law, Kristi Wall, and Rehan Khan, not pictured Ilir Hasko.

Effective June 1, 2009, Kristi Wall, EITS systems administrator principal, is serving as interim team lead reporting to Ilir Hasko, director of the Application Architecture and Integration department in the Application Development and Database Management (ADDM) division of EITS.

The Identity Management/Middleware Team will work closely with the EITS Systems Provisioning and Maintenance department. This department has played a critical role in developing and managing the many processes and systems that provide campus identity management solutions, including the UGA MyID, which provides a single sign-on for UGAMail, WebCT, PAWS wireless network, and many other online services.

Concentrating on middleware application development to provide interoperability among disparate and distributed systems that manage identity information (usernames, passwords, the UGACard Access Number (CAN), etc.), the team will:

  • Implement and enhance identity management solutions to establish a comprehensive focus on digital identity data (data stored on computers and other electronic devices used to identify people).
  • Build and enhance services that consolidate and process identity data, based on university business rules and policies. This identity data will be used to grant or remove access and authorization to various university resources.
  • Coordinate and assist with converting and/or securing SSN within distributed systems. (The scope does not include core administrative systems, which are being handled via a separate process.)
  • Support and rewrite the functionality of the "Big Card" system subsequent to its transition to EITS in December 2009. (The "Big Card" system creates the individual CANs and interfaces will all campus units who utilize the CAN.)

For more information, please contact Ilir Hasko (ihasko@uga.edu) or Rehan Khan (mrkhan@uga.edu).
