July 15, 2009, change to Internet lookups may affect off-campus users

ATHENS, Ga.— Beginning July 15, the UGA Domain Name System (DNS), the system that looks up Internet addresses, will provide this service for the UGA Internet domain only (uga.edu).

This change will not affect users on UGA campuses (Athens, Tifton, Griffin, Gwinnett, etc.), but could possibly affect off-campus computer users. Most off-campus users should be using their Internet Service Provider's DNS and will not be affected by this change. If, however, an off-campus user has set up a computer to use the UGA DNS, then he/she may experience sporadic connectivity beginning July 15.

A characteristic sign that a computer is affected by this change is difficulty reaching anything but UGA Web sites. If you experience this problem, please contact your Internet Service Provider, or contact the EITS Help Desk at 706-542-3106 / helpdesk.uga.edu for more information or assistance.
