UGA researchers are invited to join Amazon Web Services (AWS) for a colloquium about AWS research initiatives available to researchers for their work.

Dr. Sanjay Padhi, who leads AWS’s federal initiatives with the National Science Foundation, will present at the AWS colloquium on Tuesday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the R.C. Wilson Pharmacy Building in the 120 Auditorium.

This talk will provide an overview of AWS infrastructure, advanced services such as machine learning, data analytics, streaming analytics, and high performance computing for research computing. With recent collaboration with the national funding agencies, these cloud-related services will provide researchers access to cutting-edge technology in order to accelerate science. A few examples will be drawn from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, AWS Open Data Program, and NASA's Desert research.

The AWS Research Initiative with funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the domains related to foundation and innovative track will be discussed. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Commons program for cloud credits and the AWS Research Credit program will also be outlined.

Participants to the colloquium do not need to bring devices, as this is presentation style. This event is open to all UGA researchers. Event registration is required by contacting Tracy Crews at tlcrews@amazon.com.

Dr. Padhi, currently an adjunct associate professor of physics at Brown University, leads AWS's federal initiatives with the National Science Foundation and global HEP related activities. With a Ph.D. from McGill University in high energy physics, Padhi has more than 15 years of experience in large-scale distributed computing, data analytics, and machine learning. He is the co-creator Workload Management System (glideinWMS) and co-founded the ZEUS Computing Grid project at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), Germany.

AWS will also offer private, 30 minute meetings with Dr. Padhi, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., for researchers. These one-on-one sessions are reserved for faculty, although their research students may attend. To reserve a spot, please contact Tracy Crews at tlcrews@amazon.com.

This event is hosted by the Georgia Advanced Resources Computing Center (GACRC), which is a collaborative partnership with the Vice President of Research and the Vice President for Information Technology at the University of Georgia.
