- Outlook 2002 (Windows)

If you would like to read your mail with Outlook on a Windows system, you will need to follow these instructions to configure it properly. The screen shots are applicable for Outlook version 2002. Step OneLaunch Outlook and pull down the Tools menu, then select E-mail Accounts. Click on Add a new e-mail account and then Next. Step TwoSelect
IMAP and then Next Step ThreeIn the USER INFORMATION area
t ype in your name and
e-mail address (This should be your myid@uga.edu). In the SERVER INFORMATION area,
for Incoming mail (IMAP) server type email.uga.edu as shown,
and in the Outgoing mail
(SMTP) server type email.uga.edu as shown. In the LOGON INFORMATION area type in the user name part of your e-mail address. For security, we recommend un-checking the option to Remember password. Step Four Click on More Settings...
at the bottom right side of the panel. It will open Internet E-mail
Settings Under the GENERAL tab, notice that the default name
of the new Mail Account will be email.uga.edu unless you name it
something else. Step FiveUnder the ADVANCED tab, check
the box regarding a SSL connection for INCOMING server. SSL is not required for the OUTGOING server. Step SixIn the OUTGOING SERVER tab
select the check box next to "My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication"
and "use same settings as my incoming mail server," then click
OK. Step Seven
Step EightEnter your MyID and password to check your mail. For security, we recommend un-checking the option to Remember password.
Personal Configuration OptionsWe recommend that (unless everyone
you correspond with has an HTML equipped mail reader) you click on the
Mail Format tab, which can be found by selecting "Tools" from
the top menu and then "Options." Where's my mail?After Outlook is configured, email will be displayed in Outlook Shortcuts icons on the Outlook Bar as shown below. |
