The University of Georgia has been using its mainframe as a centralized computer processing hub for numerous systems across the University for decades.
With the upcoming implementation of PeopleSoft and Hyperion, as part of the OneSource Project, most of the functionality provided by the mainframe will no longer be needed.
The mainframe will be decommissioned on June 30, 2020.
The effort to decommission to UGA's mainframe will require engagement from all colleges and units, as many may have various integrations with the mainframe. Integrations include systems on the mainframe, data feeds to and from the mainframe, and querying tools that access data stored on the mainframe. In the spring of 2017, EITS started coordinating with units to identify and analyze all mainframe integrations and user access. These integrations have been compiled into one Master List of Departmental Systems to track these efforts for the OneSource and Mainframe Decommission projects.
A plan for retiring, replacing or retrofitting current mainframe integrations and user access is being developed for EITS-managed systems. Colleges and units are also responsible for developing their own plans for moving away from the mainframe.
This project will include phases to identify and track current mainframe integrations, transition mainframe integrations to other sources, and revoke access to mainframe systems in accordance with OneSource and Mainframe Decommission project timelines. User access will be revoked well in advance of the full decommission on June 30, 2020.

EITS has various project management templates that colleges and units can use to help managed their mainframe decommission project plans. EITS also has sample proposals for each of the categories used to identify mainframe integrations: retrofit, replace and retire.
All mainframe integrations identified up to this point can be viewed in the latest version of the Master List of Departmental Systems.
Updates on the Mainframe Decommission are generally provided on a quarterly basis. Materials from prior presentations are provided below:
