Online course accessibility issues to be discussed at Tate Center

The Web Accessibility Group (WAG) at the University of Georgia will mark Georgia Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) with a special event focusing on accessibility considerations for online courses.

The event will be held on Friday, September 20, from 10-11:30 a.m., at the Tate Student Center reception hall.

WAG shares and discusses strategies, techniques and resources for meeting Section 508 compliance for websites and web content.

All UGA students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the Georgia Accessibility Awareness Day celebration. A schedule of speakers is as follows:

  • 10:00-10:15 a.m.: Welcome and introductions by Janet Sylvia, web accessibility group leader
  • 10:15-10:25 a.m.: Keeping web accessibility in mind, a video with students’ perspective
  • 10:25-10:35 a.m.: Mission of the Disability Resource Center with Dr. Karen Kalivoda, director of the UGA Disability Resource Center
  • 10:35-10:45 a.m.: Office of Online Learning initiatives with Dr. Keith Bailey, director of UGA Office of Online Learning
  • 10:45-11:00 a.m.: Accessible online learning with Amy Ingalls, instructional designer with the UGA Office of Online Learning
  • 11:00-11:15 a.m.: 10 tips for creating accessible course content with Janet Sylvia
  • 11:15-11:30 a.m.: Open discussion
