Voicemail at UGA

UGA is upgrading its voicemail system August 30-31, 2017. Information and instructions are available for users. 

Obtaining UGA Voicemail Service

The UGA voicemail service is available to all users of the Athens campus telephone System.


  • Message recording capabilities: More than one caller can leave a voice message at the same time.
  • Automatic switching (call coverage): If you are talking on the phone and get an incoming call, the incoming call will be automatically switched to your voice mailbox.
  • Personal operator: Callers can press 0 to be sent to an attendant instead of leaving a message.

Remote Access

  • You can dial in remotely from off campus and obtain your messages.
  • Dial the message center number at 706-542-4234.
  • Enter your five digit telephone number, which is your mailbox number. Example: If your telephone number is 542-6962, enter 26962.
  • Enter your voicemail passcode followed by #
  • You are now in your voicemail box.

Creating Passcodes

Users must create a strong passcode for their voicemail accounts. Creating a strong passcode requires:

  • No sequenced numbers (ex: 1234 or 6789)
  • At least three unique digits
  • Exclusion of the voicemail box number as part of the passcode


The UGA voicemail service is available to all users of the Athens campus telephone system through their departmental telephone representative. The cost of the service is $4.50/month per mailbox.

VoiceMail Upgrade

EITS Telephone Services is upgrading the University’s voicemail system on August 30-31, 2017.

Voicemail boxes will be transitioned to the new system on August 30, starting at 5:30 p.m. The process will be completed by 7 a.m. on August 31.

During the migration window, users with UGA voicemail boxes will not be able to access their accounts. However, callers may continue to leave messages in those voicemail boxes. Messages in voicemail boxes will be transitioned automatically to the new system.

After the transition, users will be required to change their voicemail passcode the first time they access their voicemail.

Instructions for Changing Voicemail Passcode

  • Press the voicemail button on your phone or dial 2-4234.
    • From outside the office dial 706-542-4234.
    • You will hear, “Thank you for calling. If you have a mailbox on this system enter it now.”
    • Enter your 5-digit extension (e.g., 2-1111)
  • You will hear, “Please enter your security code.
  • Enter the default security code, 2580.
  • Next you will hear, “Your security code has expired. Enter a new security code, followed by the # sign key. Or press the * key to quit.
  • Now enter your new security code. You may use the same code you have used on the old system. There are requirements on how to create a strong passcode for voicemail. 

All other functions for voicemail should be the same after the migration
