Collaborate to replace Wimba as instructional web conferencing tool

Friday, March 28, 2014

Blackboard Collaborate has been selected to replace Wimba Classroom as the centrally-supported tool for instructional web conferencing at UGA. Both tools are currently available for use in eLearning Commons (eLC), but support for new Wimba Classroom live sessions will end August 1, 2014.

The company that supports Wimba Classroom will end support of the product at the end of 2014. Instructors may download previously-recorded Wimba sessions until December 24.

Blackboard Collaborate was one of three products pilot-tested by faculty and students in Fall 2013. Following the evaluation of these products, Collaborate was selected as the best tool for instructional uses. Blackboard Collaborate is jointly supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS).

An online Lunch and Learn seminar, “Using Blackboard Collaborate in eLC,” will be offered by CTL on April 8, at 12:30 p.m. For login details and more information about using Blackboard Collaborate for instruction, please visit http://ctl.uga.edu/web-conferencing/faculty, or contact Sherry Clouser at sac@uga.edu. For technical questions, please contact the EITS Help Desk at 706-542-3106 or helpdesk@uga.edu.
