PAWS Secure maintenance may affect access to wireless network

Thursday, February 27, 2014

The PAWS-Secure wireless network system will be reconfigured for a new secondary server starting on Friday, February 28, at 10 p.m.

Depending on how a device is configured, users may or may not need to reconfigure their phone, tablet, laptop or computer in order to access PAWS-Secure after the change. Devices may also have no problems with this change.

Users may be asked to accept a new security certificate for the MyDC02 server or their previously-configured PAWS-Secure profile may not connect automatically. It is also possible that users may not receive a message on their device stating that it requires reconfiguration in order to connect to PAWS-Secure.

Based on their device, a user may notice the following after the change:

  • Windows devices: Alert message stating the server (MyDC02) is not trusted
  • Mac devices: May not authenticate to the server or alert message stating the server (MyDC02) is not trusted
  • Android devices: May not authenticate to the server

Users who receive an alert message are asked to accept the new authentication server.

To reconfigure a device for access to PAWS-Secure, connect the device to a wired connection or the guest wireless network (Welcome_to_UGA), which does not require a login. Once connected to the Internet, visit http://ftp.uga.edu/paws to configure the device.

MacBook users may notice a small Safari window open automatically immediately after connecting to the guest wireless network. If they do, close the pop up window and open a full Internet browser (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) before attempting to connect to http://ftp.uga.edu/paws.
