University Cablevision upgrading to all digital channels
Friday, July 25, 2014
EITS is making enhancements to University Cablevision at UGA that will result in an outage for up to 12 hours on Tuesday, July 29.
These enhancements will allow University Cablevision to expand its programming in the future and use more state-of-the-art technology for broadcasting. University Cablevision currently features more than 125 channels. It is available on campus, most notably in University Housing and the Georgia Center.
The changes taking place on July 29 will convert all of University Cablevision to digital programming.
After July 29, people viewing University Cablevision with analog TVs will not receive service. Currently, analog TVs on University Cablevision may view only four channels, which are the local, major networks. Viewers with analog TVs will need to purchase a digital TV in order to receive University Cablevision.
Most modern TVs are digital and will not be impacted by this change.
Also, from midnight until about 6 a.m. on July 29, there will be no channels broadcasting on University Cablevision.
From 6 a.m. until noon on July 29, the channels will gradually return to service.
EITS will provide additional information and upgrades about this project on the UGA Systems Status website.
