Graduating soon? Here's how long you keep your MyID, UGAMail

Monday, November 13, 2023

To ensure the continued security of the UGA network and prevent unauthorized access to the network, EITS regularly disables accounts of students who have left the university.

Student MyID accounts are disabled approximately a year after the student has graduated or left UGA.

When these accounts are disabled, students lose access to many UGA IT services, including UGAMail.

EITS will send notices to all students eligible for graduation in December 2023 and graduate students who graduated or left the university during the summer of 2023.

Account owners will receive these notices on November 28; an example is provided below.

For more information, visit our MyID account removal page.

Dear First Name Last name:

UGA records indicate you have applied for graduation for fall semester 2023. Congratulations on your achievements during your time at the University of Georgia!

This is a notification that approximately one year after you leave UGA, your MyID and your UGAMail email address will be disabled, and you will no longer have access to them.

Once your accounts are disabled, you will lose access to any campus IT service that requires a MyID including:

  • UGAMail
  • Office 365 services and products connected to your @uga.edu address
  • Athena
  • vLab
  • PAWS-Secure and eduroam
  • Zoom
  • LinkedIn Learning
  • Any service or application that requires you to log in with your MyID and password

EITS periodically performs these account clean-ups to help prevent unauthorized access to the campus network and campus resources.

No action is required on your part at this time. However, below are a few steps you can take to prepare:

  • Establish a non-UGA email account. We recommend you use a non-UGA email when applying for jobs, graduate school, or professional school to ensure you do not lose important emails and contacts.
  • Migrate your contacts and archived email. If you have contacts or email from your UGAMail account that you wish to keep, you must migrate these to another email account before your UGAMail account is deleted. You can find instructions for migrating contacts and email here: https://uga.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/3190/eitsclientportal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=154218
  • Change the primary contact email on any important accounts you may have from your uga.edu email to your non-UGA email.
  • You can stay in touch with the UGA Alumni Association by updating your information at uga.edu/myinfo

You can expect a notice about account deletion a year after graduation.

If you are still completing an in-progress degree program, choose to stay at UGA to complete another degree program or are employed by UGA, your account will not be deleted.

Once you have graduated, you can access the UGA Career Center's job posting board, Handshake, by establishing an alumni account: http://career.uga.edu/alumni/alumni_handshake_registration.

If you have questions about the legitimacy of this email, please contact the EITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uga.edu.

Thank you,
