UGA’s two-factor authentication system gets an upgrade
Tuesday, November 1, 2016
ArchPass, the University of Georgia’s two-factor authentication system, has been upgraded to a new phone-enabled method called Archpass.
Any University faculty or staff member accessing restricted data must be provisioned with ArchPass access. The legacy ArchPass system relies on Dell Defender hardware tokens, which generate random, six-digit passcodes users must input along with their MyID password to gain access to certain systems.
The new Archpass service offers these users multiple methods for receiving passcodes and authenticating to systems.
Users can authenticate with a phone call, SMS text message or through the ArchPass mobile app on a smartphone or tablet.
If you are a current ArchPass user, you should have received an email with a clickable enrollment link for Archpass. The sender address on the email is no-reply@duosecurity.com. You will need that email to complete your enrollment.
Users who need help enrolling or using Archpass are welcome to attend an Archpass roadshow.
The roadshows will be Monday, November 7, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Georgia Center in Room Y/Z and Tuesday, November 15 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Main Library Instructional Room.
At the roadshows, EITS technicians will give a short overview of Archpass and assist with any issues.
Technicians will answer questions and will offer assistance with:
- Enrolling in Archpass
- Adding multiple devices to use for authentication
- Authenticating with Archpass
- Any troubleshooting issues with Archpass.
ArchPass users are encouraged to enroll in Archpass before the end of the calendar year. Legacy ArchPass and the Dell Defender hardware tokens will continue to function until January 2017 and can be used as a backup method for accessing restricted systems until that time.
Hardware tokens can be dropped off at either Archpass roadshow or returned to the EITS Help Desk at any time. Alternatively, departments may contact infosec@uga.edu to arrange for a batch pickup of tokens.
