The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) updated copyright law to cover new problems in media duplication and use of the Internet. Title I has provisions to prevent circumvention of copy prevention measures, specifically Macrovision, for analog video recorders. Title II creates safe harbors for Internet service providers (including UGA) against copyright liability as long as prescribed guidelines are upheld, and access to allegedly infringing material is blocked promptly.
