Migrate your UGAMail, contacts after graduation

Monday, November 13, 2017

Planning on graduating in December? Congratulations!

You may be leaving UGA, but there are few things you can do to prepare and ensure you don’t lose important emails and contacts from your time at the University of Georgia.

One year after you leave UGA, your MyID and your UGAMail email address will be disabled, and you will no longer have access to them. EITS periodically performs these account clean-ups to help prevent unauthorized access to the campus network and campus resources.

Once your accounts are disabled in December 2018, you will lose access to any campus IT service that requires a MyID including:

If you are graduating in December 2017, you should:

  • Establish a non-UGA email account, such as a Gmail account. You should use a non-UGA email when applying for jobs, graduate school or professional school to ensure you do not lose important emails and contacts.
  • Migrate your contacts and archived email. Your UGAMail will be disabled one year after you graduate, so you should migrate any emails or contacts you wish to keep to another email account before that time. You can find instructions for migrating contacts and email on our Help Desk site.

If you choose to stay at UGA to complete another degree program or are employed by UGA, your account will not be disabled.

More information about what happens to your MyID and UGAMail after you graduate is available on the EITS MyID account removal site.
